Name: Psalm 27
Prayer: ***26 or 27 depending upon your Bible version, this is from the "Ignatius Bible" RSCV
Psalm 27 [26]
A Psalm of David. 1 The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold* of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? 2 When evildoers assail me, uttering slanders against me, * my adversaries and foes, they shall stumble and fall. 3 Though a host encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident. 4 One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple. 5 For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent, he will set me high upon a rock. 6 And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies round about me; and I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to the LORD. 7 Hear, O LORD, when I cry aloud, be gracious to me and answer me! 8 Thou hast said, "Seek ye my face." My heart says to thee, "Thy face, LORD, do I seek." 9 Hide not thy face from me. Turn not thy servant away in anger, thou who hast been my help. Cast me not off, forsake me not, O God of my salvation! 10 For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the LORD will take me up. 11 Teach me thy way, O LORD; and lead me on a level path because of my enemies. 12 Give me not up to the will of my adversaries; for false witnesses have risen against me, and they breathe out violence. 13 I believe that I shall see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living! 14 Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; yea, wait for the LORD!

Prayer: Prayer for Parish Priests by Saint John Vianney
Dear Saint John Vianney, your childhood dream was to be a Priest, to win souls for God. You endured years of toil and humiliation to attain the Priesthood. You became a Priest truly after God's own heart, outstanding in humility and poverty; prayer and mortification. Totally devoted to the service of God's people. The Church has exalted you as model and patron saint of all Parish Priest, trusting that your example and prayers will help them to live up to the high dignity of their vocation to be faithful servants of God's people, to be perfect imitators of Christ the Savior Who came not to be served but to serve, to give His Life in ransom for many.
Pray that God may give to His Church today many more Priests after His own Heart. Pray for all the Priests under your patronage, that they may be worthy representatives of Christ the Good Shepherd. May they wholeheartedly devote themselves to prayer and penance; be examples of humility and poverty; shining models of holiness; tireless and powerful preachers of the Word of God; zealous dispensers of God's Grace in the Sacraments. May their loving devotion to Jesus in the Eucharist and to Mary His Mother be the Twin Fountains of fruitfulness for their ministry. Amen.

Prayer: PRAYER of John Eudes to the Mother of Mercy (Praying with John Eudes, page 9)
O most benevolent and most merciful Heart of Jesus, imprint in our hearts a perfect image of Your great mercy, so that we may fulfill the commandment You gave us: "Be merciful as Your Father is merciful."
Mother of mercy, look upon so much misery, so many poor people, so many captives, so many prisoners, so many men and women who suffer persecution at the hands of their brothers and sisters, so many defenseless people, so many afflicted souls, so many troubled hearts.
Mother of mercy, open the eyes of your clemency and see our desolation. Open the ears of your goodness and ear our supplication.
Most loving and most powerful advocate, show that You are truly the Mother of Mercy.

Name: INTERIOR PEACE
Prayer: "Interior Peace" by Fr. R. P. Quadrupani
Be on guard lest your zeal degenerate into anxiety and eagerness. Saint Frances de Sales was a most pronounced enemy of these two defects. They cause us to lose sight of God in our actions and make us very prone to impatience if the slightest obstacle should interfere with our designs. It is only by acting peacefully that we can serve the God of peace in an acceptable manner.
'Do not let us suffer our peace to be disturbed by precipitation in our exterior actions. When our bodies or minds are engaged in any work, we should perform it peacefully and with composure, not prescribing for ourselves a definite time to finish it, nor being too anxious to see it completed' Scupoli (Spiritual Warfare)
Martha was engaged in a good work when she prepared a repast for our divine Lord, nevertheless, He reproved her because she performed it with anxiety and agitation. This goes to show, says St. Francis de Sales, that it is not enough to do good, the good must moreover be done well, that is to say, with love and tranquility. If one turn the spinning wheel too rapidly, it falls and the thread breaks. Whenever we are doing well, we are always doing enough and doing it sufficiently fast. Those persons who are restless and impetuous do not accomplish any more and what they do is done badly.
St. Frances de Sales was never seen in a hurry no matter how varied or numerous might be the demands made upon his time. When on a certain occasion some surprise was expressed, this is what he said, "You ask me how it is that although others are agitated and flurried I am not likewise uneasy and in haste. What would you? I was not put in this world to cause fresh disturbance: is there not enough of it already without my adding to it by my excitablility?" However, do not on the other hand succumb to sloth and indifference. All extremes are to be avoided. Cultivate a tranquil activity and an active tranquility. In order to acquire tranquillity in action it is necessary to consider carefully what we are capable of accomplishing and never to undertake more than that. It is self-love, ever more anxious to do much than to do well, which urges us on to burden ourselves with great undertakings and to impose upon ourselves numerous obligations. It maintains and nourishes itself on this tension of mind, this restless anxiety which it takes for infallible signs of superior capacity. Thus St. Frances de Sales was wont to say: "Our self-love is a great braggart, that wishes to undertake everything and accomplish nothing. It appears to me that you are over eager and anxious in your pursuit of perfection....Now I tell you truthfully, as it is said in the Book of Kings, that God is not in the great and strong wind, nor in the earthquake, nor in the fire, but in the gentle movement of an almost imperceptible breeze....Anxiety and agitation contribute nothing toward success. The desire of success is good, but only if it be not accompanied by solicitude. I expressly forbid you to give way to inquietude, for it is the mother of all imperfections.....Peace is necessary in all things and eveywhere. If any trouble come to us, either of an interior or exterior nature, we should receive it peacefully: if joy be ours, it should be received peacefully: have we to flee from evil, we should do it peacefully, otherwise we may fall in our flight and thus give our enemy a chance to kill us. Is there a good work to be done? We must do it peacefully, or else we shall commit many faults by our hastiness: and even as regards penance, that too must be done peacefully" 'Behold, said the prophet, in peace is my bitterness most bitter." (Isaiah)
Name: MAKE GOOD USE OF YOUR TIME
Prayer: “Let us make good use of time” by Fr. Gabriel of St. Mary Magdalen, OCD
O Lord, as I look back on the year just passed, a year given me by Your Divine Providence in which to increase my love for You, I can only grieve over myself and say to You, “How little I have loved You, my God! How badly I have spent my time!”
“How late have my desires become enkindled, and how early, Lord, did You go in search of me, calling me to spend myself wholly in Your service! Did You perchance, Lord, forsake the wretched or turn away from the poor beggar who sought to approach You? Can it be, Lord, that there is any limit to Your wonders, or to Your mighty works? O my God and my Mercy! Now ill You be able to show Your mercies to Your handmaiden. How powerful You are, great God! Now it will become clear, Lord, if my soul, looking upon the time it has lost, is right in its belief that You, in a moment, can turn its loss to gain. I seem to be talking foolishly, for it is usual to say that time lost can never be recovered.
“Blessed be my God! O Lord, I recognize Your great power. If You are mighty, and indeed You are, what is impossible for You who can do all things?”
“Well do You know my God, that in the midst of all my miseries, I have never ceased to recognize Your great power and mercy. May it prove of avail to me that I have not offended You in this. Restore the time that I have lost, my God, by granting me Your grace both in the present and in the future, that I may appear before You wearing the wedding garment, for You can do this if You so will.” (St. Teresa of Avila, “Exclamations of the Soul to God”)
On my part, O Lord, I can think of no better way to make up for time lost than to try with all my might to increase my love. Yes, my love will grow if, for Your sake, I fulfill all my duties and perform all my good works “with all my heart” and “with all my good will”. Alas! I am so weak, so careless, so indolent! I am inclined to flee from exerting myself; I try to avoid making sacrifices. My nature always seeks what is easiest, what is least tiring, and soon falls into negligence and laziness. Help me, O Lord, and strengthen my love by Your almighty power. What I do for You is so little; grant, O my God, that I may at least do it with all the love possible

Name: TO WORK SEEKING GOD ALONE
Prayer: To work seeking God alone
"Yesterday I was in the room of a good priest and there my eyes alighted on these words: God alone!
My eyes at that moment were full of tiredness and pain, and my mind was recalling many anxious days like yesterday, and on top of the whirl of many worries, and on top of the confused sound of many sighs, it seemed to me as if my angel spoke: God alone!, disconsolate soul, God alone!
On the window-sill there was a cyclamen plant, beyond it a corridor where some priests were piously meditating, and further beyond a crucifix, a dear and venerated crucifix which reminded me of beautiful and unforgettable days, and my tearful eyes rested at the feet of Our Lord. And it seemed as if my soul was lifted up, and that a peaceful comforting voice came down from the pierced heart and invited me to rise up, to confide my sufferings in God, and to pray.
What soft and peaceful silence...! and in the silence God alone! I repeated to myself God Alone!
And I seemed to feel a beneficial atmosphere and calm around my soul!... Then I saw behind me the reason of the present sufferings: I saw how instead of seeking to please God alone! in my work, for years I had been begging for the praise of men; I was continuously seeking, continuously worried about having somebody who could see me, appreciate me, applaud me, and I concluded for myself: here too, I must start a new life: I must work seeking God alone!
The glance of God is like a fortifying dew, a luminous ray which fertilizes and expands: let us work without noise and without rest, let us work before God’s eyes, before God alone!
The human glance is a burning ray that fades even the most resistant colors: in our case it would be like a frozen breath of wind that bends, that damages the still fragile stem of the poor little plant.
Every action done to make noise and to be seen, loses its freshness to the eyes of the Lord: it is like a flower passed through many hands, barley presentable. (...)
God alone!oh, how useful and comforting to want God alone for a witness! God alone is holiness at its highest level! God alone is the best security of one day entering Heaven.
God alone, my children, God alone!"
From “The Work of the Divine Providence” by Blessed Luis Orione (1872-1940) (3 September 1899).
Name: PATIENT ENDURANCE
Prayer: The Patient Endurance by Saint Nilus of Ancyra
In time of trial it is of great profit to us patiently to endure for God’s sake, for the Lord says: “By patient endurance you will win life for yourselves.” He did not say by your fasting, or your solitude or silence or your singing of psalms, although all of these are helpful in saving your soul. But He said: “By patient endurance” in every trial that overtakes you, and in every affliction, whether this be insolent and contemptuous treatment, or any kind of disgrace, either small or great, whether it be bodily weakness, or the belligerent attacks of Satan, or any trial whatsoever caused either by other people or by evil spirits.
The apostle writes: “With patient endurance we run the race of faith set before us.” For what has more power than virtue? What more firmness or strength than patient endurance? Endurance, that is, for God’s sake. This is the queen of virtues, the found of virtue, a haven of tranquility. It is peace in time of war, calm in rough waters, safety amidst treachery and danger. It makes those who practice it stronger than steel. No weapons or brandished bows, no turbulent troops or advancing siege engines, no flying spears or arrows can shake it. Not even the hose of evil spirits, nor the dark array of hostile powers, nor the devil himself standing with his armies and devices will have the power to injure the man or woman who has acquired this virtue through Christ.
