Prayer: Please pray for me -- I have been , experiencing chest & stomach pains. My menstrual cycle came on time last Dec. 2nd, but I am concerned because it usually lasts only for around 6 days, but it is now 10 days, and I am still bleeding. I'm worried that it may have something to do with my stomach pains. I am 47 years old and a homeschooling mother with 3 kids. I'm long overdue for a physical check-up and will make one soon -- though with the holidays, the earliest appointment may be available only in January. Please pray that I may see a good doctor as soon as possible and that he may make a good diagnosis for me -- and that, if it is God's Will, it may not be a serious or life-threatening illness.
Should I not get to see a doctor till January, please pray for healing of the chest / stomach pains and bleeding for me -- so that I may be able to make Advent and Christmas a special and beautiful time for my family as we prepare for and celebrate Our Lord's Birth. Please pray that I may be able to find the right natural health supplements that can help heal my ailments till I see our doctor.
Please pray also for my husband, Rob. He is overworked and needs a vacation. He was planning for our family to take a vacation after Dec. 25th. Please pray that I may be well enough so that we can have this much-needed vacation.
Lastly, as a result of the economic crisis, the company my husband works for is downsizing. There will be lay-offs in January or February. Please pray that my husband may not be laid-off, if it is God's Will -- that he may continue to have a good job, salary & bonus, and that he may not have a pay-cut, if he is retained.
Thank you so much for taking the time to pray for me and my family! May God bless you for your kindness and generosity!

Name: INFANT JESUS
Prayer: Behold the dear Infant Jesus, and adore Him fervently. Contemplate His poverty, and humility, in imitation of His most holy Mother and of Saint Joseph. Repose near Him as sweetly as you can, He will not fail to love your heart, void as you find it of tenderness and feeling. Nothing will be wanting to you, since you will be in the presence of that holy Infant. Abide there, and learn of Him how meek and humble He is, how simple and amiable. See how lovingly He has written your name in the depth of His Divine Heart, which beats on that couch of straw from the impassioned zeal it has for our advancement, and heaves not one single sigh unto His Father in which you have not a part, nor a single movement of His spirit except for your happiness. --Saint Francis de Sales

Name: WHATS YOUR CHIEF WEAKNESS
Prayer: What's Your Chief Weakness? By the late Father Kilian McGowan, C.P. Used with permission, from the Passionist Priests, to help spiritually guide the layman.
A famous writer once said that the first step in character formation is to know what is worst in us. It's true too, for the Kingdom of God in your souls usually has one weak spot. This is the poorly defended point that the devil constantly probes looking for weaknesses. To successfully combat him you must first be well aware of this weakness.
Your chief weakness is the principal character defect in your personality. It's a kind of spiritual allergy to a certain vice or sin. It constantly influences your way of thinking and judging, of willing and acting. This fifth columnist could sabotage your imitation of Christ.
One of the favorite prayers of St. Augustine was: "O Lord, that I may know Thee; That I may know myself." As a theologian, he knew that one must balance the knowledge of God with the knowledge of one's self. As a penitent, he humbly and honestly faced up to his predominant fault of sensuality. As a lover of Christ, he resolved to combat it unremittingly.
The first step in discovering your chief weakness is to pray to God for the light to know it and the courage to admit it. Perhaps we need even more courage than light, for most neuroses result from refusing to admit some humiliating defect in our makeup or shameful misdemeanor in our past. You can't enjoy peace of soul without honesty in this matter.
The next step is to examine your past history. Look over your life. What has been your most common failing? What do you usually think of when alone or unoccupied? What are the things that make you happy or sad? Your most frequent temptation will usually lead you to your chief weakness. For the devil knows where to hit the hardest!
Finally, a very trusted friend or a regular confessor could help us. It's strange how we are willing to admit practically every fault but the most glaring one. At the time of our retreat, or deeper recollection, the Holy Spirit also gives greater insight into the obstacles to the growth of our Christ-life. Be sure to be attentive to His inspirations.
Your chief weakness is the unwanted offspring of your temperament. Some, for example, tend toward pride, presumption and ambition. Without discipline such a tendency can lead to a cruel, domineering and uncompassionate nature. Others manifest vanity, love of pleasure and lack of perseverance in their personality pattern.
Another type tends to be indecisive, moody and pessimistic. These are most fearful of the Cross and they lack courage. A final group is lacking in drive, energy and interest. These latter must especially beware of laziness and a too-easy-going way of life. Everyone, of course, can be tempted by any of the capital sins, but each should know his special weakness.
Only by the grace of God, as St. Paul reminds us, can we either will or accomplish anything. Therefore, prayer that makes us spiritually more effective is always the foremost means of combatting our weaknesses. Pray as though all depends on God, and then act as though all depends on you. In your examination of conscience keep a careful tab on our victories as well as your setbacks. It's wise to impose some sanction on yourself for your failures.
Finally, profit by the example of the saints, and make your very temptations an occasion of merit, as they did. Thus, your special weakness becomes a help rather than a hindrance. Start off right by going to war on your chief
weakness. Don't do it just to become more perfect, but to remove the greatest roadblock to the love of God.

Name: GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
Prayer: These gifts are enumerated (approximately) in Isaiah 11:2-3.
Here are the names of the seven gifts, as given[1] in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, along with a description of each gift, as defined[2] by St. Thomas Aquinas in the Summa Theologica:
* Wisdom - The gift of wisdom perfects a person's speculative reason in matters of judgment about the truth, Aquinas writes.
* Knowledge - The gift of knowledge perfects a person's practical reason in matters of judgment about the truth, Aquinas writes
* Right Judgement - " The gift of counsel perfects a person's practical reason in the apprehension of truth and allows the person to respond prudently, "moved through the research of reason," Aquinas writes.
* Courage - Also called "Fortitude." The gift of Courage allows people the "firmness of mind [that] is required both in doing good and in enduring evil, especially with regard to goods or evils that are difficult," Aquinas writes.
* Understanding - Also called "Common Sense." The gift of understanding perfects a person's speculative reason in the apprehension of truth. It is the gift "whereby self-evident principles are known," Aquinas writes[1].
* Reverence - Also called "Piety." Piety is the gift "whereby, at the Holy Spirit's instigation, we pay worship and duty to God as our Father," Aquinas writes.
* Wonder and Awe - Also called "fear of the Lord." This gift is described by Aquinas as a fear of separating oneself from God. He describes the gift as a "filial fear," like a child's fear of offending his father, rather than a "servile fear," that is, a fear of punishment. Also known as knowing God is all powerful.
Aquinas says the first four of these gifts (wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and counsel) direct the intellect, while the other three gifts (fortitude, piety, and fear of the Lord) direct the will toward God.
In some respects, the gifts are similar to the virtues but a key distinction is that the virtues operate under the impetus of human reason (prompted by grace), whereas the gifts operate under the impetus of the Holy Spirit; the former can be used when one wishes, but the latter operate only when the Holy Spirit wishes. The former are like the oars of a boat; the latter, the sails.[citation needed]
Another related but distinct notion are the spiritual gifts that St. Paul describes in, for example, 1 Cor 12-14, which are, by contrast, given for the upbuilding of others. These are also part of the Catholic tradition but more commonly known as charisms or charismata.[3]
In Summa Theologica II.2, Thomas Aquinas asserts the following correspondences between the seven Capital Virtues and the seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit:[4]
* The gift of wisdom corresponds to the virtue of charity.
* The gift of understanding corresponds to the virtue of faith.
* The gift of knowledge corresponds to the virtue of faith.
* The gift of counsel corresponds to the virtue of prudence.
* The gift of fortitude corresponds to the virtue of fortitude.
* The gift of piety corresponds to the virtue of justice.
* The gift of fear of the Lord corresponds to the virtue of hope.
